Optimising USB-C in Pro AV Applications (AVIXA CTS RU 1)
Like all technology, Universal Serial Bus - USB has evolved over time. USB-C now offers a much wider set of functions including data, video, audio, and power delivery and has become a standard component of many AV systems. With increased bandwidth, a smaller connector format, and support from major device manufacturers, USB is primed to act as the single connector for laptops and Unified Communications applications.
Attendees will benefit from understanding how USB works - including its advantages and limitations for optimal use in a Pro AV environment - and how to enhance existing systems with integrated USB-C solutions.
3 Learning points – what will the audience learn by attending this session
- Overview of USB technology to gain a firm knowledge of USB-C operation
- Understand the challenges that USB-C poses to Pro AV systems integration
- Discover solutions to overcome these challenges and optimise USB-C use for simultaneous power delivery, AV distribution and access of USB data peripherals

How and What to Measure in the AV Workgroup
(AVIXA CTS RU 1.5)
In the AV industry, ‘Service Levels’ will typically form the basis of a business contract between the AV client and service provider. Important as they are, they are only part of the story.
Service levels need a fuller context, because a number on its own is just that; it is only one of four facets, all of which must be taken into account for the result to have any real meaning. Moreover, your customers almost never measure you against service levels, but against something entirely different.
Then there’s the deeper dimension – because for an end result to be produced, numerous procedures and processes have to act in concert. For the manager, it is important to know how well those components are performing, so as to know where to tactically adjust to make a qualitative and quantifiable impact on the end product.
And then there’s the people side, where further metrics enable the manager to make our staff’s success and job satisfaction a routine element of production.
There’s also the important difference to consider between ‘Management Information’ and ‘Decision Support’ metrics.
There is much more to AV Workgroup measurement than just service levels – and that’s what makes it interesting. This isn’t about counting beans – it’s about equipping ourselves as managers with the tools we need to make our staff successful and provide our customers with the service they need.
