Following on from a record number of respondents from sector managers, the report provides up-to-date information on trends and current concerns, as well a set of data and associated management tool, which can contribute to a range of planning activities, at departmental and institutional levels.

At a time when many universities are facing almost unprecedented change, with increasing challenges to demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness, benchmarking data has never been so important. The Benchmarking Report covers areas including organisational structure and funding, teaching room technical services, television and video services, photography and design. It provides management information that can be used to identify and encourage the adoption of best practice, define and develop performance indicators and conduct benchmarking studies, all important aspects of routine service evaluation and strategic and operational planning.

The overall report comprises an extensive 118 pages including key findings and easy-to-use figures and graphs summarising and analysing responses and incorporating a full set of raw data in the form of a structured Excel workbook, enabling specific comparisons to be undertaken. This presents distinctive commentary on the direction of services including the degree of integration with other internal services, and details of the extent of outsourcing with regard to specific areas.

The full report is available exclusively to logged in SCHOMS members from the Projects & Fellowships section on the Site Navigation panel.
