Associate Professor Peter Jamieson is a qualified secondary teacher who holds a Doctorate in teaching and learning in Higher Education. He has worked as a teacher in secondary schools, as a distance educator in the vocational education sector, and as an Educational Developer in Higher Education. Prior to his current position, Peter held permanent academic positions at RMIT University, Monash University, and The University of Queensland.

For the past 14 years Peter has been involved in the design of new generation learning environments. At the beginning of 2006, he accepted an offer from the Vice-Chancellor to assume a unique role as an Educator leading the design of new learning environments at Australia’s leading university, The University of Melbourne. His activity in this role has resulted in a series of benchmark formal classrooms and informal learning environments which have drawn significant attention from local and international educators and architects.

Peter has also been invited to work widely at institutions nationally and internationally, including The University of Hong Kong, Lund University, The University of Birmingham and The University of Virginia. His role includes the direct design of physical environments, the creation of project briefs, and the delivery of professional development for academics and other staff. Peter has led numerous invited workshops and design forums which emphasise key educational principles, and a heightened awareness of the phenomenology of space, as the basis for creating engaging and effective learning environments.

Over the past several years he has worked in close collaboration with the Standing Conference Heads of Media Services (SCHOMS) in professional development activities as well as directly with SCHOMS members in the design of new learning environments. Presently Peter is leading the design and development of a Learning Environment Spatial Laboratory (LESL) at The University of Melbourne which is intended to serve as a base for research and development activity to advance knowledge and skills relating to the pedagogy-place nexus.
