The Standing Conference for Heads of Media Services (SCHOMS) is the professional body for heads of services working within UK Higher Education.

SCHOMS members lead and manage a diverse set of educational, media and institutional support services. They give strategic direction to support and promote excellence in teaching and learning practice.

This support ranges from the production of teaching materials to the Audio Visual technology deployed in teaching spaces. We constantly evaluate emerging technologies and lead in the design of innovative teaching spaces.

The group promotes continuing professional development amongst its membership, offering leadership and management development and accredited technical training for a range of roles and grades.

Procurement and enhancing supplier relationship management has become a key strategic aim, enabling consultation with manufacturers to promote and influence HE specific requirements.

Each institution deploys and manages these services from differing structural systems SCHOMS has created a community of practice where these specialised and often unique roles can gather to exchange good practice and collaborate on common themes.

Members meet for an Annual Conference in May, hosted on a rolling programme between institutions as well as specific local seminars and workshops offered throughout the year.
